Frequently Asked Questions

NeuroStructural Chiropractic vs. Conventional Chiropractic

Conventional chiropractors focus on reducing muscular discomfort, increasing range of motion and reducing pain. This is how most chiropractors practice and they do a really good job at symptom treatment and symptom management. Often times they will incorporate physical therapy modalities like hot packs, cold packs, muscle stimulation and other devices to manage symptoms.

There are some chiropractors who pursue additional certifications and coursework, allowing them to focus on other areas of chiropractic. One of those areas is called NeuroStructural Correction. A chiropractor who focuses on NeuroStructural Correction is looking to locate Structural Shifts of the spine. Structural Shifts are often the underlying cause that leads to “symptoms”. Chiropractors, who utilize NeuroStructural Correction, refer to “symptoms” as Secondary Conditions. By performing a unique, detailed, and comprehensive NeuroStructural Examination, the NeuroStructural Chiropractor can provide precise chiropractic adjustments to correct Structural Shifts.

What is a Structural Shift?

Most people can relate to normal vs. abnormal findings as it relates to body temperature, blood pressure, etc. Did you know there are normal and abnormal findings as it relates to your spine? Normal structure is not an option. Just like a level foundation is essential for any building’s structural integrity, normal structural alignment of the spine is essential for optimal function of the human body. In either case if there are structural issues it will result in abnormal wear and tear similar to when a vehicles tires are out of alignment.

“Symptoms” are basically a warning sign and can potentially indicate a more serious condition. A Structural Shift is a condition in which the spinal bones obstruct nerve information from the brain to the body and vice versa. This obstruction due to Structural Shifts is the underlying cause of many common Secondary Conditions (“symptoms”).

What are Secondary Conditions?

Secondary Conditions are what most people refer to as “symptoms”. Symptoms are really just an indicator of an imbalance- a warning signal to indicate a health problem. Some Secondary Conditions of a Structural Shift include:

  • Neck/Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Tingling & Numbness
  • Muscular Spasms
  • Headaches & Migraines
  • Herniated Disc
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Pinched Nerves
  • TMJ
  • Wrist Pain
  • Poor Posture

What Do I Need To Know Before My Examination?

When you contact us to schedule a complimentary consultation, you will be given two options. The first option is to schedule a brief individual consultation with Dr. Newton. The second option, for those wanting to gather more information about our office, is to schedule for our weekly Chiropractic Introductory Presentation. Whether you choose an individual consultation or a group presentation, you will have the option of scheduling a NeuroStructural Examination immediately following the individual consultation or at a later time.

The NeuroStructural Examination is comprehensive and you should plan on being here no less than 45 minutes. In this examination you can expect;

  • Complete set of Digital Structural Radiographs
  • Digital Structural Analysis
  • 3D Structural Shift Analysis
  • Structural Thermography
  • NeuroFunctional Assessment
  • Any Necessary Orthopedic and Neurological tests

The purpose of the examination is to objectively detect the presence of one or more Structural Shifts. It is also designed for you to have a thorough understanding of the potential cause of your condition. Following the examination you will be scheduled for a conference where we will go over the results of the examination, how we can help you and we will present a customized care plan designed specifically for your health care needs.

What Are My Options?

Our job, through the consultation and the examination, is to find out if NeuroStructural Chiropractic is best for you. We will do our very best to explain how other health care professionals, including other conventional chiropractors, may treat your health concerns and compare it to our approach. Dr. Newton will provide you with not only an understanding of what we do in our office, but what the best option is for your health. If we find during the consultation or examination that your case is not the perfect fit for our office, Dr. Newton will refer you to a healthcare provider that is right for you and your health care needs.

Dr. Newton previews the examination during the consultation so you will have a clear understanding of what he is looking for that would indicate your underlying problem is in fact a Structural Shift. This is accomplished by analyzing 5 main Objective Indicators.  A brief explanation of what is included in a thorough NeuroStructural Examination can be viewed in the tab to the left.
